What Is SEO?
Search Engine Optimization, or SEO for short, is a more selective and influential form of writing. In fact, it’s considered to be one of the most valuable and popular marketing techniques that you can use. Here’s how it works.
If you have any sort of material published on the web, then you want it to appear on the first page of the world’s most popular search engines like Google or Bing. Why? Because it’s going to generate more online traffic. Online or “Web” traffic refers to the number of internet users who visit and view web content. When you check out a website, you have become a member of that site’s traffic. You might be asking yourself, “Is it really that important for my material to appear right away on the very first page of every search engine?” Well, not only is it essential, but it is also fundamental for the success of your advertisements and promotions, which will also appear on a results page.
Nearly 75 percent of all internet users will never even bother to check out the second page of a search engine’s results. In fact, you have probably never done this, or at least not very often. This is because the most reliable and popular results to whatever it is you are searching will always appear by the rank of optimized copy. SEO Writing focuses on enhancing online content and advertisements in order for them to have priority over similar sources that appear on the same search engines, hence the name Search Engine Optimization.
Keywords & Key Phrases
Before we begin discussing the importance of keywords, you need to understand what they are first. Keywords are the words and phrases that people type in when they are trying to find a specific website or product in a search engine. They are a precious asset because they can increase a site’s online traffic for free. They also play a significant role in search engine optimization as well. SEO keywords can range from singular words, all the way to complex phrases. They are most commonly used in Web Content, but it helps to use them in your sales copy as well.
Let’s take a look at a few examples of what keywords can look like.
- Men’s Blue Jeans
- New York Times
- Women’s Black Leggings
- Children’s School Supplies
- CNN Politics
Basically, what these keywords are designed to do is to increase the ranking of online material on a search engine’s results page. How does this happen? Simple. Every search engine uses programs called “Crawlers,” which scan and analyze websites and related ads to determine their importance, therefore ranking them by the results of internet searches for specific keywords.
Now, aside from that, there is what’s known as a Seed Keyword. This typically will consist of one or two generic words that are not very specific as to what is being searched for.
Here are a few examples of what seed keywords can look like.
- Video Games
While a seed keyword can get the general idea of desire across, customers are still going to have a challenging time finding exactly what they’re looking for because these are broad terms. So, when you are writing promotional material for a client, be sure to be specific about what it is you are promoting. Not only will this save them advertising money, but it will also help to increase their sales as well.
